Born and raised in Peekskill, New York, Dr. Joseph Hickey graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1973. During his undergraduate years at Notre Dame, he spent a year in Japan as an exchange student.A graduate of the New York Medical College, he performed his medical internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, a University of Miami affiliated hospital in Miami, Florida. His residency was completed at Montefiore Hospital, The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.From 1980 to 1994, Dr. Hickey practiced Internal Medicine in his own private practice in his hometown of Peekskill. During that time, he was also a Clinical Instructor of Internal Medicine at New York Medical College and was instrumental in creating various community programs. He was the Assistant Police Surgeon for Peekskill Police Department, Town of Cortlandt Police Department and the New York State Troopers.In 1994, he relocated to Hilton Head, South Carolina, where he joined an existing Internal Medicine Practice. In 2000, Dr. Hickey and his partner, founded The Heritage Medical Center.In 2004, Dr. Hickey decided to go back into a solo practice and opened The Hickey Wellness Center, a primary care, internal medicine facility.
